This course is part of the Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy in Semester 5. Understanding and supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social communication Disorder (SCD) is a key aspect of clinical practice for SLT professionals. As ASD presents with a wide range of needs, it is essential for SLTs to apply evidence-based methods when assessing and providing intervention. This teaching unit focuses on equipping students with the skills to evaluate communication disorders including ASD and SCD within diverse cultural and linguistic contexts. Students will engage with clinical case studies, learning to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical strategies to design tailored, evidence-informed intervention plans that address the unique challenges faced by individuals with ASD.
